Telling stories through figurative terracotta sculptures inspired by pre-Columbian traditions, Kimberly Orjuela’s characters and idols reference the past while reflecting her position as a Latinx woman growing up in Canada. Using clay and organic processes to reconnect with her Indigenous ancestry, Orjuela addresses assimilation and erasure while simultaneously exploring current issues like climate change and mental health. Benoit Aquin: The Path
January 16 to February 22, 2025Benoit Aquin immerses himself in his daily life and that of the communities he encounters, avoiding the impulse to spectacularize and exemplifying the benefits of extended study. The poetic rhythm of his work lies in the repetition of motifs, the superimposition of flat surfaces and the interplay of textures.
